Tuesday Tips

Making the Most of Your Mileage

I'm sure we've all heard this song and dance before, but with the price of gas these days a reminder seems apropos.
  1. Maintain proper tire pressure. You'll find this in the manual.
  2. Use the air conditioner on the highway because the drag from opening the windows uses more gas than the A/C.
  3. Open your windows around town because the drag isn't enough to matter at low speeds.
  4. Fill up at the coolest time of day to get the most gas for your buck.
  5. Get the unnecessary crap out of your car because the extra weight reduces mileage. Do you really need 14 fold up chairs, everyday?
  6. Change your oil and filters regularly.
  7. Stick to the speed limit for maximum mileage and because tickets really screw the budget. Just ask Lori, who likes to get one every month.
  8. Plan your errands in a circuit and do them all at once rather than running out for each errand. Do them on your way to and from work.
  9. End of year car dealership sales are going on right now, so this is a good time to shop if you're in the market for a new car. Do your research!
  10. If your feet work, and most of ours do, consider using them to walk to lunch or the store if it's close by.
